From the distant shores of Lake Tanganyika in Uvira to the vibrant streets of the UK, we carry more than just memories, we carry values, we carry stories of elders who taught us to respect the land, honour the family, and protect the young. Stories that must not be forgotten.
BUGUMA-UK is more than just a charity, it is the beating heart of a people longing for connection, identity, and shared purpose.
Born from the unification of two proud Congolese
communities, the Fuliiru and the Viira, BUGUMA-UK was created to foster
solidarity, cultural pride, and mutual support among the diaspora. Though
separated by thousands of miles from the ancestral lands of South Kivu, we
remain spiritually tethered to its soil, stories, and traditions.

We are here to celebrate who we are, remember where we came
from, and build a better future, together. Whether you’re a Mufuliiru from
Lemera or a Muviira from Kabindula, you will find your place here.
Our mission is to rebuild that connection.
Through community events, mentorship, education, and cultural pride, we help our young people find not just their heritage, but their way forward with discipline, dignity, and hope. We encourage them to thrive where they are, while holding onto where they come from. To respect the laws and institutions of their new home, while drawing strength from the wisdom of their ancestors.
BUGUMA-UK welcomes not only those with Fuliiru or Viira bloodlines, but all who believe in building bridges between generations, between cultures, and between broken pieces of identity.
